Get Well Card

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

A friend has had surgery, and I wanted to make a card for her. So I stamped some nice flowers, then I wanted to sponge a light blue sky in the background. The little sponge was sitting right there, so I grabbed it and started sponging with Heavenly Blue CTMH ink. All was going well, until the sky started turning green. Green! I tried again, and it turned green again!! Then it dawns on me that I must have used that sponge to do yellow ink. That’s why the sponge looks clean…but it was full of yellow ink! Ack! So finally I get the background sponged right, put some cardstock together and:

Get Well 1

It doesn’t fit! Pieces get moved about here and there, but it still doesn’t all fit. I was getting quite miffed. Well, you know how some people get their “Aha!” moment? Mines was more like a “well duh” moment:

Get Well 2

Just turn it on its side. Well, Duh. So now I’m not liking the colors, and I change it to:

Get Well 3

It just needs a little ribbon or something, and then it becomes:

Get Well 4

Cardstock and inks from Close To My Heart:

Paper I Don’t Really Like

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

So I have to make some more teacher thank you cards, and I want to use up some of my stashed away papers. I reach in, and find some patterned papers I don’t particularly like. Can I make something I like out of something I don’t? Hmm…let’s see…

Teacher Thank-You 1

Uh – no. Maybe if I change the colors of the flowers:

Teacher Thank-You 2

Still No. Perhaps if I flip the dotted paper over:

Teacher Thank-You 3

Now it just looks like something is missing. So I add this other matching paper that I don’t care for either:

Teacher Thank-You 4

Oh, looking better. But now I don’t like those embossed squares! So:

Teacher Thank-You 5

Almost there! Just putting on the final embellishments, and (* drumroll *)…

Baby Swap Card

Monday, May 14th, 2007

Did everyone have a happy Mother’s Day? I sure did! My moms loved the additional pages for their scrapbooks, and my daughter DID remember to give me her gift…a large tissue paper flower in my favorite color – orange! My hubby cooked steak and crab for all the moms, mmMMMM! And the perfect way to end the day, making cute cards! Here’s what I started out with:

Materials for Baby Swap

And here’s how they turned out:

Baby Swap Card

Stamp set: Geometric Thoughts (Close To My Heart)

Mother’s Day Pages Part 3

Saturday, May 12th, 2007

I swear, I don’t know how large families do it. I go to one kid outing, my husband goes to the other kid outing. If we had another child, I’d need to split in two. I got home at 9:30pm after my son’s tennis potluck, and had me a nice cup of COFFEE. Gotta finish this by Mother’s Day! So check it out, I stuffed EIGHT Quickutz dies through the Cuttlebug at once. Count ‘em, EIGHT!

Eight in One Crank

In my tired coffee daze, I was able to produce this:

Meowy Christmas

Papers and My Stickease from Close To My Heart (Days to Cherish Monthly Calendar kit). Dies are Sunshine by Quickutz.

Meowy Christmas everybody!!

Mother’s Day Pages Part 2

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

Another day of work and shuttling kids around. Then, finally, ah, some time to create! I have purchased more photo paper, and I crank up that printer. Double prints, one for each Mom! Whenever the printer runs for an extended length of time, I get to see Jax do this:

Can you hear him singing that old Beach Boys tune, “good, good, GOOD, good vibrations!” My husband wonders when my printer will fill up with cat fur…yuck!

And with my new Cuttlebug toy, I can run six, count ‘em, SIX Quickutz dies at once! Woooot! It just makes it that much faster to crank out two sets of these:

All papers, My Stickease, and Sassy Strands from Close To My Heart. Diecut alphabets in Moxie font by Quickutz.

It is slow going because I’m making two of everything. Can you see the camera warp in that photo? There must be some Photoshop thing to get rid of that. And I am using that little Moxie font again. I need more of that size, I tell you. Tomorrow, I tackle Christmas photos!

Alternate Idea

Saturday, May 5th, 2007

I had some leftover pieces from Cassidy’s birthday card, so I just created this using the scraps:

Stamp sets: Friendship Blessings, Smitten (Close To My Heart), Be Happy Every Day (Hero Arts)
Inks: Heavenly Blue, Crystal Blue, Watermelon (Close To My Heart)
Cardstock: Taffy, Sweet Leaf, Bubblegum, White Daisy, Black (Close To My Heart)
Other: Silver My Accents (Close To My Heart), embossing folder (ProvoCraft’s Cuttlebug)

While posting this, I’m listening to U + Ur Hand by P!nk. What an attitude that lady has! I like it…

Birthday Card for Cassidy

Friday, May 4th, 2007

Cassidy is having her 1st birthday party tomorrow! I’m still trying to figure out what to do with my cooool new Cuttlebug. Now that the Hawaii State Legislature is Sine Die, I’m done with late nights until next year! Whoopie! Time to crank that Cuttlebug handle!! This is what came out first:

It reminded me of a magazine article I read recently on using neutrals, so I did what the article did:

Ooooooooo, I like it!! Now to just add those little somethings, and ta DAAAAA:

Happy 1st Birthday Cassidy!!

Cardstock: Taffy, Sweet Leaf, Bubblegum, Black (Close To My Heart)
Inks: Watermelon (Close To My Heart)
Stamp sets: Happy Birthday, Smitten (Close To My Heart)
Other: Big Brads, Just Blooms (Close To My Heart), embossing folder (ProvoCraft & Cuttlebug)

Embossing with the Cuttlebug

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

Woooo yeah I got me a Cuttlebug!! Thanks for dropping it off, Jen! After the kids were finally asleep, I had a chance to take it out of the bag. While bouncing to my craft room, I hear this crunching noise. So I turn to see what it is, and I see THIS:

My cat Jax has immediately put himself in the empty space where the Cuttlebug box was. What is it about cats and bags?!? It must be some strange attraction, like me to textured cardstock. Lol!

So for those of you who haven’t seen the Cuttlebug before, here’s a short demonstration. Make the Cuttlebug “sandwich” like so:

In this example, I’m using a large embossing folder with smooth Bubblegum cardstock. Then, just roll it through the machine:

It went through so easily that I wasn’t sure if it did anything. But when I took the cardstock out, it looked like this:

Wooo ha! I’m sooo happy! You just can’t imagine how happy this makes me. I need to run every single embossing folder I have through this thing, and then I need to buy more of them. I MUST have THEM ALL!! Bwah ha ha!!

There is a 1-year-old birthday party I’m attending this weekend, and this is going to become part of the card. Check back again and see how it turns out!

Now…does anyone know if I can run those old Fiskars texture plates through this thing? I had good intentions to use those plates, but rubbing that little stylus over the whole plate was not my idea of fun.

New Toy – Cuttlebug Embossing Folders and Dies

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Now that I’ve had my food for creativity (pizza and coffee coffee coffee), I want create some more!

I have owned the original Sizzix machine and Quickutz, but after seeing Jen’s baby card, I HAD TO get a Cuttlebug. Had to. You should have heard me squeal when I first saw that card!

I got some Cuttlebug embossing folders and dies, and tried them in my good ol’ Sizzix with converter. It came out okay, but if you look really closely, you can see the lines the edge of the converter made when I squashed the cardstock down. So now I’m out to get a Cuttlebug. I considered a Big Shot, but I need something that won’t take up so much space.

So now I’m trying to copy Jen’s card, and it is not as good, but I’m working on getting better:

Stamps (sentiment): Random Thoughts (Close To My Heart)
Inks: Baby Pink, Bubblegum (Close To My Heart)
Papers: Baby Pink, White Daisy, Grey Flannel cardstock (Close To My Heart)
Embossing folders: Baby words, Stitched square (Cuttlebug)
Die cut: Giraffe (Cuttlebug), Tag (Coluzzle)
Other: star brads and ribbon (both from Close To My Heart)

I like it, I like it! But I’d like it even more if I had a Cuttlebug, lol!! Okay, am I getting weird? OH, I see. I’m always like that. I’d better get some sleep.
